New vocal FX

Any of you who have seen us live know that we (I) tend to run my vocals very heavily effected.  We have historically done this on the computer in Reaper, with all of the effects courtesy some excellent free plugins (mostly made by the wonderful TAL).  The problem, however, with running that many live 64 bit audio effects, is that (go figure) it is very taxing on the computer.  There is also the tendency when solely relying on the computer, to just automate things and not think about them, sort of "out of sight, out of mind".  It is for these two reasons (all tied to our equipment failure at the Station4 show), that I am in the process of switching my vocals to use hardware units.

So I guess I sing through this now:

For those (any?) who are interested, what we have here is our audio interface (presonus firepod/fp-10) with my shiny (and red) new Electrix Warp Factory setup in a "send" on the computer, and then the output of vocals track five routes through the Alesis MIDIverb4 and then out to the house.  This way I can still mix the vocoder wet/dry and bypass-automate it in Reaper, but I have hardware FX doing the actual work.

So far it is working great.  Of course our setup is always a work in progress, so who knows what it will look like by the time we play live next...

2 shows past

So somehow I missed posting our last two shows on this site. While an unfortunate oversight, in a way I think of it as a good thing, since I have simply been too busy with kether-related things! For the sake of posterity, I will briefly document both shows here while I still remember what happened.

First, there was a somewhat ill-fated show at Station4 in St Paul. This was with OBCT, Albuterol and Eldergaad ("Eldergaad vs the Electropunks"), and aside from small detail, the only problem is that not too many people came. That one thing, however, was that our computer didn't work at all! We never even got to play. This was the only time this had ever happened to any of us, and we all vowed that it would be the last. Other wise, the other bands were excellent and we had a great time in spite of ourselves.

One month later, after a busy time rethinking our live setup, we played a much more successful show at the Kitty Cat Klub with Plastic Believers, the Night, and the Trapezoids. What a great night of.local electronic music this was! We spent (too much) time before this show getting our

computer setup solid, and it paid off big time. Yet still technical issues followed me/us, and plastic believers' USB MIDI controller failed then inexplicably right before their set. We were thankfully able to help them out and let them borrow our Axiom49, which seemed to work great for them. All of the bands were great and we got a lot of positive feedback.

Thanks to all the bands at both shows!

New single "Losses"

We are happy to finally post our new single off the TC Electropunk Vol. 6 compilation, "Losses", for your listening pleasure.  We hope you like it!

TC Electropunk 6 recap

The show at Club Underground for the TC Electropunk 6 release was a success!  A lot of great people came to watch 8 great bands despite an ongoing snowstorm.  Josh the sound guy did a great job getting all of the bands to really sound good, and everyone seemed like they were having fun.

Along the way we met (or were reacquainted with) many very cool and interesting people and made a lot of great connections.  Thanks to everyone who came out and who helped make the TC Electropunk 6 compilation and release show great.
